I completed my 1st mural at FloydFest_2019, where I painted live for 4 days. WOAH what an experience, I was commissioned to paint my interpretation of the festivals 2019 theme: Voyage Home. l had the pleasure of interacting with many inspiring folks this while conversing with this piece surrounded by friends, music, and the open mountain air. I took this theme as an invitation to revisit my beginning principals and discipline of when I had approached abstraction in my artwork. I’ve never painted any larger than 4’ x 4’ or have had my process be observed from start to finish with so many humans. I could not have created this piece without the conversations and support I experienced while painting and directly expressed into the piece through the mediums of paper, adhesive, and (oil/ acrylic) paint. This was such a great opportunity and I am very grateful to have had the pleasure of sharing my visual and active articulation of spirit and matter with the public.
On the last day someone shared this quote with me and it impacted my last hours of painting, “Perfect is the enemy of done.”
Shoutout to Jaimie Phillips and Sam Navarre for being amazing painter friends and tackling these massive squares together!
